MISD Early Childhood Philosophy

MISD Early childhood Center will strive to help each child develop a positive self-concept.  While responding to unique needs we will provide consistent, safe, nurturing environment that promotes your child's development in the following areas:

  • Physical
  • Social
  • Emotional
  • Cognitive 
  • Creative

Standards have been established for a quality developmentally appropriate program for your children.

Head Start

The purpose of the Head Start program is to work with school districts to provide a complete early childhood program for income-eligible children who are three or four on or before September 1. Head Start is a comprehensive Pre-Kindergarten program that serves Low-income children and families. Head Start is funded by a federal Grant. The Program provides a range of individualized services in the areas of education; medical, dental and mental health, nutrition and parent involvement. 

Pre-K

The purpose of the Pre-K program is to work with families to provide a complete early childhood program for eligible children who are three or four on or before September 1. Children may qualify based on family income, homeless, military status or non English speaking. Children are provided many opportunities to stimulate learning in all developmental areas; physical, social, emotional and intellectual.                       

Pre-School Programs for Children with Disabilities

The Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD) serves students ages 3-5 years that meet eligibility criteria for one of the disabilities identified by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). This program also serves ages 0-2 years of age that meet eligibility criteria for a hearing or visual impairment. The PPCD program addresses skill areas such as:

  • Language
  • Articulation
  • Fine/Gross Motor Skills
  • Social/Emotional
  • Behavioral
  • Self-Help
